Heavy rain warning - February 2022
The Metservice has issued an Orange heavy rain warning for the Nelson Tasman region, and a red warning for the Buller and Westland regions.

As the region has been so dry, it is recommended that people take extra care with this event, as the rainfall will not readily soak into the ground. People should keep clear of waterways that may rise rapidly, and stock should be moved to higher ground.
If out and about over the next few days, please take care when on our roads.
The warning for the Nelson Tasman region (as at 10:39 am on Tuesday 1 February) is as follows:
Period:
31hrs from 2pm Wed, 2 Feb - 9pm Thu, 3 Feb
Area:
Tasman west of Motueka
Forecast:
Expect 150 to 250mm of rain. Peak rates of 20 to 40mm/h. Please note, that further rain is expected after this period, and the Warning may be extended.
Impact:
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
